When is the October Harvest Moon?
The full Harvest Moon will be visible tonight (Thursday October 5), almost two weeks after the autumn equinox on September 22.
Usually, the Harvest Moon comes just before the equinox.
But this year the October full moon falls closer to the equinox than the September full moon, the first time that this has happened since 2009.
The next October Harvest Moon will fall in 2020.
What is the Harvest Moon?
The Harvest moon is the name given to the full moon closest to the Autumn equinox, which falls on September 22 or 23.

Where to watch the October full moon
Anybody in the northern hemisphere will be able to spot the full moon, as long as there are clear skies.
The Met Office has forecast: “Showers becoming confined to the far northeast and Irish Sea coasts.
“Elsewhere, largely clear skies and easing winds, allowing a chilly night in places, with a patchy grass frost possible.”
How to watch the Harvest Moon
Keen stargazers will not need any specialist equipment to spot the full moon, simply look up into the skies after the sun has set at around 6.30pm tonight.
The Harvest Moon will be at its brightest at about 7.40pm.
When is the next full moon?
The November full moon will arrive on November 4 and will be named the Hunter’s Moon.
This moniker is given to the full moon which follows the Harvest Moon, and usually falls in October.
