‘They’re shooting right at us!’ Watch video from officers responding to Las Vegas attack

The footage shows officers attempting to locate the gunman and bring concertgoers to safety amid chaos on the Las Vegas Strip, as thousands of bullets are fired towards them from the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel.

Amid police sirens and long bursts of gunfire, people screamed, “They’re shooting right at us,” while officers shouted, “Go that way!”

The video was played at a news conference on Tuesday as work continues to try to establish a motive for the horrific attack, which has become the deadliest shooting in US history.

Meanwhile, images have emerged depicting the scene officers faced as they breached the room from which the gunman wreaked terror on the Las Vegas crowd.

The killer is pictured lying on the floor of the lavish room, surrounded by weapons.

Gunman Stephen Paddock killed 59 people and injured more than 500 others when he opened fire on the Route 91 country music festival on Sunday night, shooting indiscriminately towards the 22,000-strong crowd and sending thousands fleeing into the streets in fear.

He fired AR-15-style rifles at the innocent crowd, at least one of which had been modified to allow him to shoot more rapidly.

The killer was found dead in his room when Swat teams arrived on the scene, with a cache of 23 weapons.

As investigations into the gunman continued it emerged that the 64-year-old was a millionaire who lived in a quiet retirement community in the Nevada desert.

The wealthy former accountant had had a pilot’s and hunting licence and no criminal record, according to police.

One former neighbour described the keen gambler as “weird” as according to some sources, there is reason to believe the suspect had a history of psychological problems.

Despite a claim from Islamic State, Paddock is not believed to have had any connection to any militant groups, leaving more questions surrounding his motive for committing the terrible atrocity.

The killer’s brother, Eric Paddock, told reporters their father was a bank robber who used to be on the FBI’s most wanted list and once escaped from prison.

He said his family were “stunned” by the news, adding: “There’s absolutely no sense, no reason he did this.

“He’s just a guy who played video poker and took cruises and ate burritos at Taco Bell.”
