That’s the view of former footballer-turned-pundit Stan Collymore.
Barca were prepared to break the bank for the Brazilian in the summer with Philippe Coutinho desperate to move to the Nou Camp.
However, Liverpool blocked Barca’s attempts to sign him and the 25-year-old has now settled back into life on Merseyside, scoring three goals in his last three outings.
But former Reds striker Collymore feels Barca should be looking at De Bruyne if they want to land a marquee signing.
De Bruyne has been one of the standout performers for Manchester City of late, registering two goals and four assists to his name this term.
“If I was in charge of recruitment at Barcelona I’d be looking to take Kevin De Bruyne over Philippe Coutinho all day long,” said Collymore in his Mirror column.
“It’s not even a contest.
“If the Brazilian is worth £140m in the Catalan club’s eyes, then the Belgian is more like £180m or £190m.”
De Bruyne remains under contract with City until 2021, while Coutinho’s deal with Liverpool expires in 2022.
Barca could renew their interest in the Brazilian in January when Liverpool will be tasked with another hectic month of trying to keep hold of their prized asset.
