Star Fox 2 was developed for the Super Nintendo by Nintendo and Argonaut Games.

It was meant to have a release on the SNES in 1995 but was cancelled shortly before its intended launch.

Nintendo cancelled the Star Fox 2 release due to the launch of the N64 which was set to soon follow it, according to lead programmer Dylan Cuthbert.

Cuthbert said legendary producer Shigeru Miyamoto wanted a “clean break” between 3D games on the two consoles.

He also said the gaming giant wanted to avoid comparisons with 3D games between Star Fox 2 on the SNES and the more powerful PlayStation and Saturn.

Star Fox 2 had been playable at the 1995 CES event and had been extensively covered by game magazines at the time.

Since its cancellation, a ROM of the early alpha version of the game became available on the internet.

The source code, which was available to download in 2010, dates back to when Star Fox 2 was in early development and features a basic multiplayer mode.

A more fleshed out ROM – which is close to the release code, later become available to download but contained minor bugs and unfinished feature.

But the version on the SNES Classic Mini is the finished version of Star Fox 2.

And it marks the first time anyone outside of Nintendo has been able to play Star Fox 2.

Later games in the Star Fox series includes the N64’s Lylat Wars, the Gamecube’s Starfox adventures and the Wii U’s Star Fox Zero.

For retro fans, Star Fox 2 is one of the main selling points of the SNES Classic Mini.

The SNES Classic Mini has a release date today, and the pint-sized console comes loaded with 21 iconic 16-Bit games.

A number of these games were never before released in the UK, including Earthbound, Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy III (which is Final Fantasy 6).

The SNES Classic Mini launched today, but fans who don’t have a pre-order look to be facing an uphill battle to bag a console.

Whenever stock has become available today, it has sold out within minutes.
