Google Pixel 2 release date is almost here, and Google wants to buy your old phone

Google has launched a trade-in deal for owners of the original Pixel and Pixel XL.

The US technology company is offering money for older handsets ahead of the launch of its hotly-anticipated Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 next month.

Unfortunately, the scheme appears to only be available in the United States.

Express.co.uk has asked Google whether Pixel owners this side of the pond can expect to see the same trade-in offer ahead of the upcoming .

Google will not immediately send the money.

Instead, the US technology company will refund your credit card as soon as it receives – and inspects – the old device.

When starting the trade-in process on the Google Store, users will receive an estimate, which could be revised later on, based on the actual condition of the device.

Still, this could be a convenient way for those looking to buy a Pixel 2 or Pixel XL 2 to recoup a little extra money before October 4th.

According to technology blog Droid Life, Pixel 2 XL will start from $849 for 64GB of storage.

That increases to $949 for the 128GB model.

Previous reports suggest Google will debut an Always On display with its upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2.

This technology will look very different from the ambient display feature available on current generation Pixel phones, sources have revealed.

Samsung has shipped an Always On display on its flagship phones for a number of years.

The nifty functionality enables users to quickly glance to check the time, or any outstanding app notifications, without the need to wake the display.

The new Pixel models will also be IP68 dust and water resistant, it has been claimed.
