Arsenal news: Inter Milan chief confirms transfer interest in Mesut Ozil

Ozil has entered the final 12 months of his contract and can from January sign a pre-contract agreement with another club.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of his optimism that Ozil and other players coming to the end of their contract will commit their futures to the Emirates.

But Ozil has remained reluctant to renew his deal and is now a subject of interest from foreign clubs.

Inter have made an impressive start to their season and are two points behind joint leaders Napoli and Juventus.

But attention has already turned to the January transfer window and chairman Thohir has revealed they are looking at at the possibility of signing Ozil.

“He [Ozil] is definitely one of those players we are looking at but the last January signings of [Lukas] Podolski and [Xherdan] Shaqiri proves winter signings can be fail to live up to expectations,” Thohir said.

“We have many new players already, we have tried to build the best possible team with the resources we had.”

Ozil came off the bench in Monday’s win over West Brom but did not travel with the squad to face Arsenal Bate Borisov in the Europa League tonight.

And former Gunners defender Martin Keown believes Wenger is losing trust in him.

He said: “Ozil is the one I wouldn’t trust as much mentally, and I believe he’s not playing because the gaffer really can’t trust him anymore.

“I think it’s a huge story that Ozil doesn’t play tonight.”
