The 22-year-old’s heartbroken family blamed his death on “torturous” mistreatment at the hands of Kim Jong-un’s vicious regime during 17 months detention in the hermit state.
Mr Warmbier was held in North Korea after attempting to steal a propaganda poster from a hotel and eventually returned home to Cincinnati in a coma, not able to understand language and had severe brain damage.
He died five days later.
During their first TV interview since Otto’s death, an emotional Fred and Cindy Warmbier cried as they recalled the moment they met their son on a plane in Ohio after his release.
Branding North Korea “terrorists”, they claimed their son was deaf, blind, jerking uncontrollably and making “inhuman” sounds.

Mr Warmbier said: “When we got halfway up the steps of the plane we heard this howling, involuntary inhuman sound we weren’t really certain what it was.
“We climbed to the top of the steps we looked in Otto was on the stretcher jerking violently making these inhuman sounds.
“Cindy and Otto’s sister Greta ran off the plane. Austin, Otto’s brother, and I walked over to Otto.
“Otto had a shaved head he had a feeding tube coming out of his nose he was staring blankly into space jerking violently.
“He was blind, he was deaf. As we looked at him and tried to comfort him it looked like someone had taken a pair of pliers and rearranged his bottom teeth.
“Within two days of Otto being home his fever spiked to 104 degrees. He had a large scar on his right foot. North Korea isn’t a victim, they’re terrorists.”
Mrs Warmbier told Fox & Friends: “They totally destroyed him.”
Authorities in Kim Jong-un’s North Korea said the American student had fallen ill with food poisoning and taken a sleeping tablet – which doctors in the US found no evidence of.
The couple said they were compelled to speak out after North Korea claimed they were in fact the victims.
Mr Warmbier said: “Now we see North Korea claiming to be a victim, that the world is picking on them, and we’re here to tell you that North Korea is not a victim, they’re terrorists.
“They kidnapped Otto, they tortured him, they intentionally injured him, they’re not victims, they’re terrorists.”
Mr and Mrs Warmbier said they had initially been optimistic about Otto’s return after nearly 18 months in a North Korean prison.
Mrs Warmbier told viewers: “What we pictured, because we’re optimists, was that Otto would be asleep and maybe in a medically induced coma and our doctors here would work with him and he’d get the best care and love that he would come out of it.”
