Liverpool could let Philippe Coutinho go to Barcelona in January if title challenge is off

The Reds blocked Barca’s attempts to sign him in the summer but Spanish newspaper Sport say the Catalan giants could finally get their man in the New Year.

Owners Fenway Sports Group have held meetings with Philippe Coutinho’s representatives and have agreed to listen to Barca when the transfer window reopens.

Barca have remained in touch with Coutinho since his failed switch and are now confident of signing the midfielder.

Meanwhile, Coutinho’s agent and family have been in contact with the Anfield hierarchy and have been attempting to discuss an amicable exit from the club.

Sport reckons Liverpool won’t be mounting a title challenge this season and in that case, the American owners will let the 25-year-old leave.

The report suggest Coutinho has once again expressed his desire to move to the Nou Camp.

One factor thought to potentially delay a move until next summer was said to be Coutinho being cup tied for the Champions League after representing Liverpool in their clash with Sevilla earlier this month.

However, Coutinho is not put off by the fact he won’t be able to play for Barca in European competition and still wants a switch in the New Year.

While Coutinho continues to push for a move to Barca away from the pitch, he has had no problems on the field.

The Brazil international scored a stunning free-kick against Leicester on Saturday and will be looking to impress once again when the Reds take on Spartak Moscow in the Champions League tomorrow night (7.45pm).
