That’s according to Barcelona team-mate Jordi Alba, who scored the opening goal in last night’s 3-0 win over Girona.
Messi has made a fast start to the new La Liga season, scoring nine goals in his opening five league games but was unable to get on the scoresheet against Girona.
And his performances have been vital to Barcelona’s impressive start to the season and are the only side in the Spanish top flight yet to drop a point.
While Messi was relatively quiet in last night’s game, Alba heaped praise on the Argentina international for his ability to work in small spaces.
“It doesn’t matter whether you put one or two men on him, with the quality he has, he can leave anyone behind,” Alba said.

“If we talk about Leo, it’s clear that ultimately, he’s very difficult to stop. Valverde? He’s managing the squad very well.
“Practically all of us are playing, some more and some less, but that’s normal. The truth is that we’re responding very well [to his methods].”
And Ernesto Valverde echoed Alba’s comments while also revealing that Messi consulted with him during the match to figure out a plan to wriggle free of his marker.
“It can happen, but it’s also true that this makes for moments when he can drag his marker out of position and take advantage,” Valverde said.
“Messi came to me in the 10th minute to ask how I wanted him to deal with his marker. Messi did well, he was calm and helped the team.”
