Rangers vs Celtic LIVE updates: Team news and highlights from Old Firm clash at Ibrox

Rangers failed to beat Celtic in six attempts last season but head into this Old Firm clash in confident mood.

They are unbeaten in five outings (W3 D2) and edged Patrick Thistle 3-1 after extra time in the Scottish League Cup on Tuesday night.

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is adamant his side can take apart rivals Celtic today and narrow the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership to two points.

Brendan Rodgers sees things differently, however, and could bring Moussa Dembele back into his starting XI.

Rodgers has a wealth of talent to choose from at Celtic and they have so far cruised to the top of the table in this early stage of the season.

Rangers vs Celtic kicks off at 12noon with the full line ups being revealed at 11am.

RANGERS vs CELTIC LIVE UPDATES

Nicholas backs Hoops

10:15: Charlie Nicholas reckons Celtic could run riot at Ibrox if Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha plays four in defence.

Writing in his column for the Scottish Daily Express, Nicholas said: “If Rangers play with a back four then Celtic will beat them because Rangers won’t be safe or secure.

“If that was the case, I would back Celtic by a couple of goals.

“I refuse to indulge in this rubbish that Rangers have to attack because they are at home. No, they don’t. Rangers fans are on the brink of another embarrassment – they have had it already in recent Old Firm games.

“What the Rangers fans are looking and hoping for is something different from their team, and Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack give them a bit more quality.

“If Rangers were to lose, then the pressure will be on Caixinha – unless his players and his team show there has been an improvement.

“Results, as we all know, at Rangers and Celtic are the be all and end all.”

Celtic favourites to win

10:00: The form book backs Celtic heavily to win this clash.

The Hoops won five of the six Old Firm matches last season, two of which via a 5-1 scoreline.

It was Rangers’ first season back in the top flight but Celtic laid down the gauntlet with dominate displays both home and away.

Rangers have started the season well enough and reacted positively to their shock exit from Europe.

But Celtic are the pace setters already in Scotland with five wins and a draw from their opening six games.
