Durant became enemy No1 with Oklahoma fans last summer after he decided to leave the franchise that drafted him back in 2007.
But their fury wasn’t just down to his decision to leave, but to who he was joining.
Oklahoma City had just been beaten in the Western Conference Finals by Golden State in a thrilling seven-game series and just months later Durant opted against rejoining the Thunder after hitting unrestricted free agency in favour of moving to the Warriors.
He faced a barrage of abuse throughout last season and when he arrived at the Chesapeake Energy Arena for the first time as a Warrior he was showered with boos from the same fans that once chanted his name.
And, in a recent interview with Jon Steinberg, the reigning NBA Finals MVP and his agent, Rich Kleiman, opened up on what emotions were like leading up to the announcement he was leaving for the Bay Area.

“We were all messed up on jet lag,” Kleiman says, turning to me, “and I was up at 6 a.m. and he calls me and says, ‘Yo, are you up?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, what’s up?’ And he’s like [yelling], ‘Why the f— did you let me do this to my life?’ And I’m like, ‘Ohh s***, I’m coming over to your room.'”
And Durant, instead of feeling jubilant about joining one of the most exciting NBA projects in history to play alongside the likes of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, felt like he had reached “rock bottom”.
But it was the full-blooded response from Thunder fans on social media that really took its toll on the 2014 MVP.
“To have so many people just say, ‘F— you,’ that really does it to you,” Durant said.
“Because I truly had invested everything I had into the people I played for…. And for those people that I know and love and trust to turn their back on me after I was fully invested in them, it was just…more than I could take. I was upset.”
