Manchester United vs Everton: LIVE scores, highlights and updates from Old Trafford

Manchester United v Everton: Express Sport brings you LIVE scores, highlights and updates from Old Trafford

Updates and analysis from our reporter Richard Tanner, at Old Trafford.

15:57: Unusual for Jose to face a manager with a better head-to-head record against him in the Premier League. In fact Koeman has never lost in their five encounters.

The Dutchman had two 1-1 draws and a 3-1 win over Chelsea while he was Southampton manager.  And last season Everton held United to two 1-1 draws.

Given their recent form, the Toffees would bite your hand off if you offered them a point now – but I just can’t see it. Even without the influential Pogba, United will be too strong for them.

No surprise that Koeman has made five changes following the Europa League capitulation to Atalanta. Pickford, Williams, Martin, Davies and Gueye are all back.

15:53: I covered the Everton v Atalanta match on Thursday evening (Nope, I wasn’t sent on a three-day jolly to Italy), and Ronald Koeman’s side were absolutely atrocious. If that wasn’t enough, Everton’s flight home was delayed for three hours! Huge response needed today.

15:53: Mourinho has made five changes and has underlined his liking for Fellaini by preferring the big Belgian ahead of Herrera and Carrick to replace the injured Pogba.

Fellaini certainly deserved to start after a lively display – and a goal – after replacing Pogba against Basel in midweek. And he’ll be as pumped up as Lukaku and Rooney to put on a show against his old club – he scored 33 times in six years with Everton.

There are so many re-unions. Schneiderlin and Keane are former United players as well. Apart from Fellaini, Jones and Bailly, as expected, are back in the centre of defence for United. Valencia and Rashford are also back in the starting line-up.

15:50: And here’s the starting XI’s folks…

Manchester United XI: de Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Young, Fellaini, Matic, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Lukaku.

Subs: Martial, Smalling, Lingard, Carrick, Romero, Ander Herrera, Darmian.

Everton XI: Pickford, Keane, Jagielka, Williams, Martina, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Baines, Davies, Sigurdsson, Rooney.

Subs: Sandro, Mirallas, Klaassen, Besic, Stekelenburg, Calvert-Lewin, Holgate.

15:48: There were not many fans in Old Trafford but those that were in their seats early gave a warm welcome back to Rooney as he trotted out with his Everton team-mates to warm-up.

Must be a strange and emotional feeling for him running out with the opposition in a stadium he graced for 13 seasons. Let’s hope he remembered to go in the away dressing room.

Mind you, Jose Mourinho says he is welcome in the home dressing room and the manager’s office – but only after the game. And he doesn’t have to knock!

15:45: Good afternoon folks, welcome to our LIVE coverage of Manchester United vs Everton from Old Trafford.

We don’t have much time to chat about this one, so I’ll just get stuck in.

The Toffees have lost three games in a row, the most recent of which was Thursday’s 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League when Koeman publicly put the onus on himself.

Meanwhile Jose Mourinho’s side are smashing it, and could leapfrog Manchester City to top the Premier league pile with an emphatic win today.

In short, it’s not looking good for the visitors today.

MANCHESTER UNITED TEAM NEWS

Paul Pogba’s hamstring injury rules the midfielder out of today’s clash and for a further few weeks after that.

The 24-year-old limped off in Tuesday’s Champions League win against Basle – a match Phil Jones and Eric Bailly missed through suspension. United boss Jose Mourinho intends to bring the pair back in at centre-back on Sunday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo continue their recovery from knee ligament damage, while Luke Shaw is pushing for a recall after recovering from ligament damage in his foot.

EVERTON TEAM NEWS

Ronald Koeman looks set to make changes again as Everton bid to end their poor form at Manchester United.

Following three successive defeats Koeman has called for more from his senior campaigners and after making six changes for the Europa League loss to Atalanta on Thursday, the likes of Ashley Williams, Idrissa Gueye and Davy Klaassen can be expected to be recalled along with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The Toffees remain without James McCarthy (knee), Ross Barkley (hamstring), Ramiro Funes Mori, Yannick Bolasie (both knee) and Seamus Coleman (broken leg).
