LONDON — An “incident” aboard a subway car in London’s Tube network was being investigated by police Friday, and ambulance officials confirmed commuters had been injured.
One photo posted on social media appeared to show a bucket on fire.

The London Ambulance Service confirmed it had sent a hazardous area response team to the incident. It was called to the scene at 8:20 a.m. local time (3:20 a.m ET).
In a statement, the agency added the “initial priority is to assess the level and nature of injuries.”


London’s transit system was the target of a series of coordinated suicide bombings on July 7, 2005. Often referred to as “7/7,” the attacks during the morning rush hour killed 52 people and seriously wounded hundreds.
According to the U.K. government, the current threat from international terrorism is “severe” — the second highest level.
