The unusual 1960s Wandre was part of an auction of 400 guitars in the biggest sale of its kind in Europe.
The guitar belongs to R&B musician Zoot Money, and was played by Jimi Hendrix at Zoot’s apartment in September 1966 – during Hendrix’s first visit to the UK.
And now one Hendrix superfan has bagged the guitar for a princely £5,952, after the auction held by Gardiner Houlgate auctioneers in Corsham, Wilts.
Auctioneer Luke Hobbs said: “Zoot’s apartment was a place where people came to jam and party and it was one of the first places Hendrix’s visited when he landed.
“Hendrix came over from America with his Stratocaster and went to Zoot’s place.

“But the Strat malfunctioned and so Hendrix picked up the Wandre while they were sat on sofa and tinkered with it.”
He added: “It is not a guitar he played in any live shows, but it is one that he played with his own hand.”
