Gennady Golovkin record: GGG’s best five wins ahead of Canelo Alvarez clash

This weekend he puts his record and belts on the line against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Express Sport looks back at his best wins to date as he prepares for his defining night in the ring.

GGG v David Lemieux, October 2015

Golovkin was blowing through everybody by this stage but Lemieux, the IBF champion at time, was expected to provide a tough challenge.

But this showed how good the Kazakh KO star was as he never even looked troubled by the Canadian.

The end came in the eighth after Lemieux had been down in the fifth. It was a one-sided drubbing.

GGG v Daniel Jacobs, March 2017

This may have been the fight that helped get the clash on with Alvarez but it was still an impressive victory.

Golovkin’s 23-fight knockout streak came to an abrupt halt in the clash but he still dug deep to get the victory.

Jacobs was the much bigger man but the Kazakh never panicked in the bout. The scorecards were disputed but the right man won.

GGG v Matthew Macklin, June 2013

The Birmingham boxer had dropped a controversial points loss to Felix Sturm and gone 11 rounds with Sergio Martinez.

But Golovkin destroyed him inside three round with a devastating display.

Macklin said afterwards that the body shot that finished him cracked three ribs.

GGG v Martin Murray, February 2015

Like Macklin, Murray had shared a ring with Martinez but he went closer to beating the Argentine as he lost a close fight on the cards.

Golovkin took 11 rounds to break the St Helens man down but he eventually got the job done.

Murray has suffered two more defeats since but he has to be stopped by anyone other than the Kazakh.

GGG v Willie Monroe Jr, May 2015

Another fighter who came into the bout with confidence, but left after being brutally beaten.

The American was down twice in the second and once in the sixth before it was decided he had enough.

Golovkin had barely broken sweat as opponents continued to cower away from him.
