Man Utd News: Andreas Pereira justifies Valencia move and hits back at Jose Mourinho

Pereira impressed on Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the US this summer, and was given the No15 shirt previously worn by club legend Nemanja Vidic.

However, he decided to join Valencia on loan after the club signed Nemanja Matic from Premier League champions Chelsea.

That decision angered manager Jose Mourinho and surprised many fans who were expecting him to have a role in the Red Devils’ squad this season.

But Pereira, speaking to Spanish sports paper Marca, claims he made the right decision by returning to La Liga, where he spent last season on loan with Granada.

“It was difficult because they wanted me to stay in Manchester,” he said.

“But for me individually and for the options to play it was better to be here. Because it was better to come to Valencia to play games and help, because at Manchester I had little chance.

“On the one hand I’m happy because he loves me and I think that if I’m not a good player, I would not have wanted to stay. So I think on the bright side.

“If I thought negative it might hurt, but for me it’s a good thing.

“I talked to him before coming here and I want to work hard and stay all year. I’m focused here.

“I want to be here and help the team all year, but I do not know what United wants in the future.

“I want to contribute the best and do the best all year in Valencia.

Mourinho questioned Pereira’s appetite for the fight llast week.

“Andreas Pereira was a personal decision that I don’t agree with,” he said.

“A decision I don’t think honestly I don’t think is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me a little bit, because I think he has the potential to be here fighting for a position, for opportunities, and fighting to be a Manchester United player.

“I think his decision can be considered a decision of a young player who wants to play every weekend but can also be considered a decision by a young player that is not ready to fight for something difficult and it’s difficult to play in the Manchester United midfield.

“You have to be ready to fight for a position and I am a bit disappointed that he left.

But okay, it was his decision, I open the door for his decision, he has a long-term contract, we have the option to bring him back on January 1, so we have that situation under control. It is not a drama but is a decision that disappoints me a little bit.”
