Spandau Ballet to REPLACE Tony Hadley after shock exit: ‘We’re bigger than one member’

The man who voiced the group’s biggest hits departed earlier this year, amid reports of fraught tension.

Following a screening of their new documentary, Gary Kemp said Hadley’s exit was not a surprise, but insisted that someone with a different energy will be sought.

“We’ve been together for 40 years. I don’t think we’re ready to give it up,” he said, according to The Telegraph.

“There are only two members of The Who left – I’d still go and see The Who every day of the week because the essence is still there. Spandau Ballet are bigger than one member.”

He described the search for a new singer as not so much as a move to “replace Tony”, but more to grab “someone different, bringing their own personality”.

“He decided he didn’t want this any more. It’s as simple as that. We have to respect that and wish him well and move on,” he added.

Hadley sent shockwaves through the band’s still-impressive fanbase when he announced his exit via Twitter in July.

“Due to circumstances beyond my control, it is with deep regret that I am no longer a member of the band Spandau Ballet and as such I will not be performing with band in the future,” he wrote.

Gary, John Keeble, Steve Norman and Martin Kemp remain active.

The band have sold millions of records since shooting to fame at the start of the 1980s, serving up classics such as True, Gold and Through The Barricades.

Hadley released a solo Christmas album in 2015.
