Black Sabbath: Tony Iommi on TEARS at ’emotional’ final show and band’s future EXCLUSIVE

Last February saw Black Sabbath play what was supposedly their last live performance after 50 years together.

Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi headed back to where it all started, performing one last show at Birmingham Genting Arena.

In a recent interview promoting Black Sabbath: The End of The End – a rockumentary covering the final tour – Tony spoke out on what it was like playing the last show.

The 69-year-old rocker said: “It was a weird atmosphere. You were thinking, ‘This could be the last time I ever play this song.’

Tony continued: “Looking out at the audience we were seeing true fans from all across the world.

“It was sad really because people were crying. You thought, ‘Bloody hell’, you realise what you are to these people. It was really emotional.”

When asked if there were similar tears backstage among Black Sabbath itself, Tony revealed how they didn’t really see each other.

He said: “No, I never saw them because after the show we all had so many friends there in our own rooms.

“So after the show, I went out and saw my friends. Then Geezer would come out, but I don’t know what happened to Ozzy. He sort of disappeared.”

, but did say how they had a reunion just a few days later.

Tony added: “But we did get together like two or three days afterwards and we’d done some rehearsal, playing some of the songs live in the studio that we weren’t doing on stage.

“And that was great because we had time to talk then. Otherwise if we hadn’t done that, everybody would have just dispersed and we wouldn’t have seen each other. So it was great. We had a chance to come out easy.”

But was The End world tour really The End for Black Sabbath?

Tony replied: “Who knows. We might at some point do one off shows. There’s nothing planned at all.”

The guitarist had mentioned how it was a little disappointing that they didn’t get a chance to make that 20th studio album, so could that be on the cards even though touring is over?

He added: “I don’t know. Nobody’s talked about it. I think everybody wants to do their own thing at the moment. Ozzy’s certainly going to be out touring with his own band until God knows when. If anything, it’s not going to be in the near future.”

Black Sabbath: The End of The End will be shown in selected cinemas on September 28 and can be booked .
