What is iPhone X – has Apple decided to drop iPhone 8 name?

Apple will purportedly launch three new iPhone models at its exclusive media event tomorrow night.

The Cupertino-based company will unveil its new hardware in the Steve Jobs Theatre, located in its new Apple Park headquarters, on September 12th.

Apple is widely-tipped to launch two iterative updates on the design and features debuted with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last year.

Alongside these smaller updates, Apple is rumoured to unveil an all-new premium handset with

Evan Blass has revealed this new flagship smartphone will likely be branded iPhone X.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

That makes a certain amount of sense, since the new handset will mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone range, which first launched back in 2007.

Notorious leakster Evan Blass tweeted: “FWIW, I’ve also heard “iPhone X” (though not 8 / 8 Plus for the JV squad) as well as 9/15 pre-orders and 9/22 release / ship date.”

Ahead of the launch, a number of sources have referred to the all-new iPhone X as the iPhone 8.

However, some rumours point to Apple branding its iterative updates to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus as the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus – skipping its typical S model update.

However, tipster Evan Blass clearly disputes this theory.

According to Blass, pre-orders for the new iPhone will become available online on Friday September 15th.

The latest hardware will ship to customers available and become available to pick-up or buy in brick-and-mortar Apple Stores the following week, Friday September 22nd.

Blass is usually very reliable, but as always, nothing is confirmed until Apple announces it on-stage, so take this with a healthy pinch of salt.

Other sources believe the 10th anniversary smartphone will be dubbed iPhone Pro.

Apple already uses this moniker to single-out its high-end iPad and notebooks, so it would certainly make a certain amount of sense.

However, both the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro are powerful, productivity-focused machines and by all accounts, the all-new iPhone will not include any professional-oriented features – but rather, a beautiful new industrial design and some 3D facial recognition technology.

Zach Epstein suggests Apple follow the convention it has already established with its iPad Pro models, and simply name the different models based on their screen size, i.e. 4.7-inch iPhone, 5.5-inch iPhone and 5.8-inch iPhone.

Whatever it’s called, the premium iPhone looks set to be a real doozy.
