Prince Harry Meghan Markle relationship update: Couple’s first royal engagement this month

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s love affair has been much talked-about since the US actress said they were “in love” during her Vanity Fair interview.

Prince Harry, 32, and his 36-year-old love Meghan are in the throes of a young love and it’s all royal fans can talk about.

Putting a tough month behind him – August marked the 20th anniversary of his mother Princess Diana’s death – Harry is reported to be planning big things for September.

It’s reported the Prince and his Suits girlfriend will take part in their first official royal engagement together this month.

The first official public appearance together could well be at the Invictus Games in Toronto later this month.

Meghan lives in Toronto most of the year as it’s where she films her role as Rachel Zane in Suits.

And it happens to be where the couple first met this time last year.

The rumour comes as a source at the palace said an engagement celebration is a case of “when not if”.

The insider royal source said: “The consensus is there will be a wedding next year.”

But if the couple do get married, what will Meghan’s name be? Meghan,as most fans will know, is the star’s middle name – she uses it instead of Rachel, although she has never revealed why.

While Meghan could go by her first name and be known as Princess Rachel of Wales, there is a longstanding tradition of royals going by middle names, or shortened versions of their name.

The official title of Prince Harry himself is Prince Henry of Wales.

Odds have been slashed on a royal wedding for 2019 – with odds also reduced on the royal couple having a baby in 2018.

Coral suspended betting on Prince Harry and Meghan announcing an engagement this year after being flooded with interest in the last 24 hours.

This Morning spoke to Express Royal Correspondent, Camilla Tominay, to get her opinion on the Vanity Fair article. Speaking about why she would have done the interview, Camilla said: “She needs to claim ownership of the story, and she hasn’t said anything out of turn. Plus I think she will appear during the Canada tour, so this is gettng her ready for that.”

She continued: “She is a ready-made royal – she already does humanitarian work, and is used to the limelight compared to previous girlfriends. She seems well disposed to it all, and has clearly got a bright head on her shoulders.”

Asked if she will keep her career if they get engaged, Camilla said: “It’s 2017, the Queen and other members of the family will just be happy if Harry settles down and has what the Cambridge’s have.”
