US Open 2017: Sloane Stephens upsets Venus Williams to reach her first Grand Slam final

Stephens came through a pulsating three-set encounter – 6-1, 0-6, 7-5 to book her place in the final tomorrow.

Stephens was aiming to reach her maiden Grand Slam final.

She got off to the perfect start too.

Pressurising Williams paid off as the 24-year-old forced the former US Open champion into unforced errors.

Stephens stepped up the pace and she took the opener with relative ease – winning it 6-1 inside 25 minutes.

Williams was looking very strong serve and won a few cheap points.

Stephens was broken again on serve when her 62 mph serve was pounced on by Williams.

Stephens served to stay in the match and she did despite the onslaught from Williams.

And Stephens ultimately showed the greater nerve to then serve it out for the match and win the third set 7-5.
