But where was the movie shot?
The municipality of Port Hope in southern Ontario, Canada, formed the location for Derry.
In July 2016, it underwent a minor facelift for the film: the Port Hope Tourism Centre became the City of Derry Office, the Port Hope Municipal Hall became the Derry Public Library, and various shopfronts were also adjusted.
US flags replaced the Canadian flags downtown, while the local cinema – Port Hope Capitol Theatre – showed signs saying Batman and Lethal Weapon 2 were playing; firmly placing the movie in 1989.
Elsewhere, Oshawa – a city in Ontario – was used in late July and August 2016; with a dilapidated old house built on a formerly vacant lot.
