Nadal eased into the semi-finals with a comfortable straight sets win over Andrey Rublev earlier today.
The 19-year-old was competing in his first Grand Slam quarter-final but was no match for the Spaniard.
It means Nadal remains on course to set up a mouthwatering clash with world No3 Roger Federer in the semi-final, the first time the two would meet at Flushing Meadows.
Federer will first have to overcome the 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro later this evening.
Del Potro beat the Swiss in that final in one of the biggest upsets of the last decade and put in one of his best performances to date in the last round by coming back from 2-0 down and saving two set points against Dominic Thiem.

Nadal and Federer would have been in opposite sides of the draw had Andy Murray not withdrawn from the tournament prior to the draw being made.
And Nadal is slightly aggrieved that it won’t be possible to play Federer in this year’s final, but vowed to make it happen in the future.
“It is something a little bit strange that we never played here because we played a lot of times in all the important events around the world so it is something we missed,” said Nadal.
“It would be much more special if it could happen in the final but we’re going to come back and try to make that happen.”
Nadal holds the advantage over Federer in head-to-heads, having won 23 of their 37 contests over the years.
