In or out of costume and scary clown make-up, young Skarsgard seems to have perfected quite the menacing stare.
This wasn’t what immediately impressed Andres and Barbara Muscietti when they were casting the role, though.
Director Andres has revealed that the Swedish rising star has a hidden talent that was so perfect that it actually removed plans to use digital wizardry to achieve the same disturbing effect.
Even though Bill Skarsgard comes from a famous acting dynasty and his big brother is already a horror icon, it seems he has one unique trick up his sleeve.
Andres added: “We started doing further tests, if you will, and each test I discovered something new that he was bringing, and I became more and more excited about him. And then he was with the makeup, and then doing the thing with the eye, and he got better and better!”

Andres said: “We were talking about the character, and I said, ‘In post-production I’m going to deviate your eyes,’ and he (Skarsgard) said, ‘I can do it.’ He was here in the morning and he was doing the trick. It’s crazy. What are the chances the guy that you picked for the role could do it?”
