On Christmas Day last year, music lost another icon in the form of Wham! star Michael. Just after his death, music producer Rodgers revealed that they had been working on new music only two days prior.
Now the latter has released a reworking Michael’s Fantasy as a single, something that had always been intended, but never came to pass in the star’s lifetime.
The song has already made waves on social media, with one fan writing: “I am sobbing. I can’t even. @nilerodgers @GeorgeMichael #fantasy #heartbroken.”
“@nilerodgers It’s brilliant and thank you for keeping George Michael’s music alive and fresh! #fantasy,” said another.
A third beamed: “OMG! @GeorgeMichael #Fantasy was simply #awesome @nilerodgers excellent work! @BBCRadio2 #replayalldaylong #GeorgeMichael”
The track was originally supposed to feature on the singer’s second album, Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1; and was a B-side in the early 90s.
Before his death Michael had been working on the new version and now fans can enjoy the fruit of the late star’s labours.
The funky track premiered on Radio 2 this morning and will be included on the re-release of Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1/MTV Unplugged, which is out on on October 20.
Sony Music have also put together a new film called Freedom, which will air on Channel 4 around the album’s release.
Narrated by Michael, the documentary will featuring stars such as Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Liam Gallagher and Rodgers.
Michael had been working on the film right up until Christmas 2016 when he passed away.
Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1/MTV Unplugged will be released on October 20, 2017.
