‘Time is not on our side’ Experts say North Korea could soon blast US cities with missile

On Sunday, the hermit state detonated a hydrogen bomb in its most powerful nuclear test to date.

The weapon, thought to be five times more deadly than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, has triggered fresh waves of concern chubby dictator Kim Jong Un could be about to launch an attack on the US.

And yesterday, state media released a warning that

However analysts claim it is unlikely the tyrannical regime would be able to target US cities yet.

He added: “There’s a lot of uncertainty.”

To target a US city, the rogue state would require a long-range missile that had the ability to carry a nuclear payload and also survive re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere.

And while rapid headway has been made by the despot and his team of nuclear scientists, the country is not quite there yet, it is claimed.

However Kim has already threatened Guam, a US territory in the Pacific, and remain an immediate and dangerous threat to South Korea, Japan and other US allies in the region.

Philip Coyle, an analyst at the Center for Arms Control and Non-proliferation remains skeptical North Korea can currently target US cities with large payloads.

But he said: “I don’t think time is on our side here at all.

“Are they there now? I don’t think so, but if we keep fooling around they are going to get there.”

Mr Albright added that he believed North Korea to be masters of propaganda, and are trying to convince the world they have an effective threat in order to be treated as a nuclear powerhouse.

He said: “The North deliberately exaggerates their capabilities.”
