World War 3? US Army prepares for North Korea invasion as nuclear row escalates

Mr Trump’s White House administration has ensured its military forces are combat ready after Mr Trump refused to rule out the possibility of military action as a method of ending the North Korea crisis.

The US has been keen to demonstrate to North Korea it would be foolish even to attempt an attack by making public the details of several impressive military tests and exercises.

Having already carried out a test on the “most dangerous nuclear weapon ever produced”, the US authorities have turned their focus on potential ground conflict.

US forces amassed on the Pacific island of Hawaii as they hold training drills to ensure they are combat ready in the region, which is in range of North Korean missiles.

The US Marine Corps released footage documenting the ongoing Exercise Bougainville II amongst the unforgiving desert terrain at the Pohakuloa Training Area.

The impressive video shows land, sea and air forces combining as the simulate the potential of a ground invasion.

A Marine involved in the exercises said they worked on a live “squad attack” on a reinforced “enemy fire team”.

Cpl. Mason Brooks added: “What we did covering movements while we move toward the enemy while under suppression from machine gun and mortar fire.”

Lt. Gen David H. Berger, commander of US Marine Corps forces in the Pacific, visited the training exercise to ensure combat readiness in the region.

The US and its allies Japan and South Korea have also been busy conducting joint-exercises as a response to North Korean missile threats.

The US sent its most advance fighter jet, the F-35B Lightning II, to northeast Asia for the time time, as the Pentagon hopes to deploy more than 100 of the fighters in the area over the next three years.

“The F-35 embodies our commitment to our allies and contributes to the overall security and stability of the Indo-Asia Pacific region,” said Lt. Gen. Berger.
