North Korea announced that it had “successfully” detonated a hydrogen bomb which sparked a huge 6.3 magnitude artificial earthquake in the region.
Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea has clearly outlined what he wants after he detonated a hydrogen bomb, just days after he launched a missile over Japan, last week.
Speaking on Radio 5 Live, the BBC’s World Affairs commentator John Simpson explained exactly what Kim Jong-un wants from America and President Donald Trump.
He said: “That is the most important question of the lot, I don’t think there is anything more important than that. Why are they doing this?
“I think they want two things. One thing is they want to show how important and powerful they are.

“And when I say ‘they’, I think I am talking about Kim Jong-un, that young fat character who’s age, I think nobody knows, his marital status nobody is quite sure about, who’s been running the country since 2011.
“He seems to want to push his tiny little country right out right forward into the list of the most powerful countries on earth.
“To do that he’s got to defeat the Americans in diplomatic terms, he can’t possibly beat them in military terms but he can make them go down on their knees and talk to him and accept him as one of the top powers.”
Mr Simpson added that the leader of the rogue state is cautious not to make the same mistakes as dictators in the past.
“I think the other aspect of it is that he is desperate to avoid the kind of disasters that have affected so many dictators in the past,” he continued.
“Saddam Hussain and a variety of others and he knows the dangers and he thinks the only way to do it is to keep on fermenting trouble.”
Mr Simpson also claimed that the North Korean dictator has created his own religion of the “Kims” and “Kim worship is at the heart of it all”.
The commentator’s remarks come as North Korea is reported preparing the launch of a ballistic missile, as tensions increase leading to fears of World War 3.
South Korea’s defence ministry said in a parliament hearing that it was detecting signs that Pyongyang plans to stage more ballistic missile launches.
Chang Kyung-soo, a defence ministry official, said: “We have continued to see signs of possibly more ballistic missile launches. We also forecast North Korea could fire an intercontinental ballistic missile.
Pyongyang claimed that Sunday’s detonation, which the South measured at 50 kilotons, was the test of a hydrogen bomb.
US defence secretary Jim Mattis hit back, saying the US will answer any threat from the North with a “massive military response – a response both effective and overwhelming”.
President Trump tweeted: “Their words and actions continue to be very hostile and dangerous to the United States. North Korea is a rogue nation which has become a great threat.”
