There has been much mystery surround Del Toro’s character in The Last Jedi.
Originally introduced as The Man in Black, he is now referred to as DJ.
Fans have been speculating for months as to what the meaning of this name or nickname could be and it looks like it’s been discovered.
Yesterday saw Force Friday II and a whole host of toys and collectables related to The Last Jedi released, including DJ.
The item in question is a Funko Pop! figure of Del Toro’s DJ.
The mysterious character is wearing a hat with a label written in Aurebesh, a language from the Star Wars galaxy.
Twitter user UgurB_M purchased the figure and translated the text, which read: “Don’t join.”
Surely this is what DJ means, but in relation to what? Well a few weeks ago John Boyega, who plays Finn, revealed more about Del Toro’s character.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he said: “We just need a codebreaker and he’s the best in the galaxy. Unfortunately, he’s very dodgy and only in it for financial gain. He doesn’t fight for any side.. He has distinct opinions.
“The Resistance bombs the First Order one day, the First Order bombs the Resistance on another. It’s an ongoing war that will never end. For him, he’s trying to benefit off of that — which doesn’t make him the person you want to trust.”
With this in mind, perhaps “Don’t join” refers to the fact that Del Toro’s character doesn’t want to take sides in the war?
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will be released in UK cinemas on December 14, 2017.
