The Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch did not make an appearance at the IFA technology tradeshow in Berlin this year.
Instead, Samsung unveiled updated versions of its fitness trackers during its media event.
The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro sports a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED curved touchscreen display, while the new Gear Sport has a design reminiscent of the Gear S2 Sport.
Although both fitness trackers are able to display notifications from a paired smartphone, neither are true smartwatches.
According to the latest rumours, Samsung still plans to launch a successor to the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier smartwatches.

However, with IFA now done and dusted, it’s unclear whether these new smartwatches will make it to market in time for Christmas.
Details are a little thin on the ground about the new Samsung smartwatch.
However, it seems very likely the new wearable will look to incorporate Samsung’s smart assistant Bixby into the experience.
Bixby, which first launched with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, is the company’s answer to Siri and Google Now.
Unlike its rivals, Bixby can perform a number of on-device tasks with a simple voice command – like select a number of photographs and group them into an album, or change system settings.
Samsung has announced a slew of new features for Bixby during the Note 8 launch last month.
Elsewhere, Gear S4 (or whatever Samsung decides to brand it) will likely ship with a faster processor and better battery life.
Expect a better display to make an appearance as well.
Gear S4 will most likely run TizenOS – a dedicated operating system build by Samsung.
Tizen 3.0 brought 64-bit compatibility as well as support for 4K Ultra HD graphics and image and speech recognition.
Samsung also claimed Tizen 3.0 was 30 per cent faster its predecessor, Tizen 2.4.
It’s likely Tizen 4.0 will bring similar performance improvements to the smartwatch range.
Apple is widely-tipped to launch its next-generation Apple Watch at the iPhone media event on September 12th.
Samsung and Apple have already been beaten to the punch by fitness tracking rival Fitbit.
The US brand debuted its first smartwatch, dubbed Fitbit Ionic, earlier this summer.
It boasts a lightweight aluminium case design, health and fitness tracking features, water resistance up to 50 metres and in-built GPS.
Unlike the Fitbit Blaze – which skirted the line between smartwatch and fitness band – the FitBit Ionic will have a third-party app platform.
The Ionic runs on the brand new Fitbit OS, an operating system Fitbit have designed for smartwatches that will receive updates.
It will be compatible with a number of new apps, such as the Fitbit Coach – a personal trainer app that offers users tailored video workouts.
The Fitbit ionic has a price tag of $299 in the US, and £299 in the UK.
