Hurricane Harvey: Tragedy as police officer drowns during flooding in Houston, Texas

Steve Perez was driving to work downtown on Sunday when he got trapped in high water near Interstate 45 and tried to flee his vehicle.

The 60-year-old’s body was recovered from the flooded car today and family has been .

The sargeant the victim as a Houston Police Department veteran who worked for the force for more than three decades.

Houston mayor Sylvester Turner said: While I’ve encouraged other people to stay at home, our first responders they have been working 24/7 on behalf of the people of the city of Houston.
