Mass Effect Andromeda DLC canned, but EA gives fans new hope on PS4, Xbox One

Mass Effect Andromeda DLC may have been scrapped, but fans have been given fresh hope of new content.

BioWare recently confirmed that Mass Effect Andromeda wouldn’t have any single-player DLC and that there would be no more patches for the main game.

But fans will be pleased to hear that EA may revisit the Mass Effect franchise in the future.

That’s according to EA’s Patrick Soderlund, who described it as a spectacular universe with a big fanbase.

“I’ve seen people saying ‘Oh, EA’s not making another Mass Effect’,” he told GameReactor.

“I see no reason why we shouldn’t come back to Mass Effect. Why not? It’s a spectacular universe, it’s a loved [series], it has a big fanbase, and it’s a game that has done a lot for EA and for BioWare.”

Soderlund warns that if it does return, it would need to be fresh and exciting.

He continued: “What we need to be careful though of is, whenever we bring Mass Effect back again, we have to make sure that we bring it back in a really [relevant] way, and in a fresh, exciting place.

“That’ my job, and that’s Casey’s [Hudson] job, and BioWare and the Mass Effect team’s job, to figure out what that looks like, and that we don’t know yet, but we will.”

Soderlund also discussed the negative reaction to Mass Effect Andromeda, arguing that some of the criticism was harsh.

“Well I think, my personal opinion is, I think that the game… I usually don’t do this, but this is one of those places where I feel like the game got criticised a little bit more than it deserved.

“I think the game is actually a great game. Yes, we have to acknowledge the fact that there were some things that maybe we could have done better, absolutely, but as a whole, if you go in and you buy the game today with everything that’s in it today, I believe that that’s a game worth buying, personally.”

If Mass Effect does come back, it will be after the release of BioWare’s Anthem, and possibly even a .

BioWare’s Mike Laidlaw recently suggested that BioWare has plans for another two Dragon Age games and that there is no planned ending for the series.

“There is no planned ending for DA,” he told one Twitter follower. There is an evolving plan that tends to look 2 games ahead or so.

“Thus, I could tell you what -could- be in a theoretical game 5, if there were a theoretical game 4 happening.”
