MAGA Divide: Trump’s Iran Policy Sparks Conflict Among Allies
The escalating tensions between Israel and Iran are causing a rift within the political coalition that propelled Donald Trump to the presidency in 2024. Differing factions within the MAGA movement are now questioning whether they can trust Trump to navigate the complex situation appropriately. This Iran policy is testing the unity of President Trump’s base and raising concerns about potential Middle East conflict.
Trump Dismisses Intelligence Assessment on Iran’s Nuclear Program
President Trump recently contradicted Congressional testimony from his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, who stated in March that the intelligence community assessed Iran was not actively constructing a nuclear weapon.
‘The IC continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon, and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003,’ Gabbard stated, a point recently highlighted.

‘I don’t care what she said, I think they were very close to having one,’ Trump stated to reporters when questioned about Gabbard’s remarks.
Response to Israeli Strikes
Trump departed the G7 Summit in Canada early to return to Washington, D.C., to monitor the Middle East situation.
The recent Israeli military actions in Iran took many of Trump’s supporters by surprise, particularly those who believed the president would avoid further engagement in Middle Eastern conflicts.
Key Voices Criticize Trump’s Approach
Carlson and Bannon’s Warnings
Journalist Tucker Carlson and former Trump senior advisor Steve Bannon jointly hosted separate podcasts on each other’s programs, cautioning against the potential for a disastrous war with Iran.
They attributed Trump’s backing of Israel’s military actions against Iran to the influence of the ‘deep state’ within intelligence agencies and hawkish Republicans.
Furthermore, they warned that the president risked the ‘end of his presidency’ if he embroiled America in another protracted Middle Eastern war.
Trump’s Rebuttal and Greene’s Support for Carlson
The president responded sharply to Carlson’s criticism, dismissing his comments while at the G7 summit.
‘I don’t know what Tucker Carlson is saying, let him go get a television network and say it so the people listen,’ Trump said.
President Trump later criticized Carlson on social media.
‘Somebody please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON,’ Trump posted.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia supported Carlson following the president’s criticisms, calling Carlson ‘one of my favorite people.’
‘He fiercely loves his wife, children, and our country. Since being fired by the neocon network Fox News, he has more popularity and viewers than ever before,’ she wrote on X.
“Foreign wars/intervention/regime change put America last, kill innocent people, are making us broke, and will ultimately lead to our destruction,’ she wrote.
‘That’s not kooky. That’s what millions of Americans voted for. It’s what we believe is America First.’
Hawkish Republicans Voice Approval
Support from Fox News and Pompeo
Carlson and Bannon criticized Fox News for allegedly amplifying propaganda to promote another Middle East war to its audience.
Trump’s support for Israel and the intensifying conflict with Iran has garnered significant approval from more hawkish Republicans and media figures, including those at Fox News.
Conservative radio host Mark Levin has been featured prominently on Fox News, repeatedly praising Trump’s choice to support military strikes against Iran.
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has also appeared on the network, commending the president’s firm stance in support of Israel.
Sen. Cotton’s Criticism of Dissenting Voices
Senator Tom Cotton criticized the ‘so-called influencers or podcasters’ who opposed Trump’s actions in Iran during an appearance on Levin’s Sunday program.
‘No offense but they don’t have the authority and accountability under our constitutional system,’ he stated.
Loomer’s Defense of Trump
Investigative political activist Laura Loomer joined the attacks on Carlson after Trump criticized him. Berating ‘every single right winger who is s**t talking Trump right now,’ asking her followers to keep a list.
MAGA Influencers Remain Hopeful
Faith in Trump’s Leadership
Despite prior reservations about entering another prolonged Middle Eastern war, many of the president’s top MAGA influencers are cautiously optimistic that he will make the right decisions.
‘President Trump knows his base. Have some faith in his ability to handle this. His whole life has led to this moment,’ Kirk wrote on X, sharing an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters.
‘President Trump knows his base does NOT want another Iraq or endless war,’ Kirk said in the interview, but noted the president was not ‘an isolationist.’
Trump’s Stance on Negotiations
Trump told reporters on Monday that he was willing to consider any concessions or peace talks offered by the Iranians, though he was not personally in contact with them.
While leaving open the possibility of using America’s most powerful ‘bunker-busting’ bombs to destroy Iran’s nuclear sites, he told reporters, ‘I hope their program is going to wiped out long before that.’
‘Remember, Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. Very simple,’ he concluded.
