Sir Rod Stewart Incurs Personal Expense for Glastonbury 2025 Performance
Rock icon Sir Rod Stewart is reportedly incurring a significant personal expense to perform at Glastonbury 2025. The “Maggie May” singer, 80, who last headlined the festival on the Pyramid Stage in 2002, is slated to take the coveted teatime legends slot—a position previously held by luminaries such as Diana Ross and Shania Twain. Despite the honor, Stewart reveals the festival fee doesn’t fully cover the costs of his elaborate production.
Financial Implications of the Performance
In a recent interview, Stewart detailed the financial challenges of his Glastonbury appearance. The fee offered by festival organizers, while substantial, falls short of covering the extensive expenditures required for the performance.
“It was about eight months ago when I was invited, maybe a little longer,” Stewart explained, “But it didn’t align with my schedule because I’ve got to bring everybody back from America.”

Logistical Challenges and Costs
Stewart currently holds a Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace on the Strip. Participating in Glastonbury necessitates transporting equipment, staging, and his entire crew from the United States back to the United Kingdom. These logistical demands contribute significantly to the overall expense.
- Significant transportation fees for equipment and crew
- Staging and production costs
“It’s going to cost me £300,000 to do it and they only pay you about £120,000. So it’s going to cost me,” he stated.
Stewart mentioned his band would be flying in Premium Economy, adding, “I haven’t flown commercial for 20 years.”
Stewart’s Financial Standing
Financially secure, Stewart possesses a valuable collection of cars and typically travels via private jet, although he does not own one. He owns properties in Essex, Florida, Los Angeles, and France, and often adorns himself with “diamonds and gold,” reflecting his considerable net worth.
Festival Finances and Artist Compensation
It is no surprise that Stewart has an impressive £220 million net worth.
Glastonbury organizers maintain a policy of not disclosing individual artist payments; however, over time, details of some compensations have emerged. Both Paul McCartney and Coldplay reportedly received around £200,000 each for their headline performances. Festival founder Michael Eavis has confirmed that performers generally receive “less than 10%” of their standard earnings from other festivals.
Charitable Contributions
Glastonbury aims to donate at least £2 million from the festival proceeds to charitable causes. These include its official charity partners Greenpeace, WaterAid, and Oxfam.
