Survivor Accounts: Vishwashkumar Ramesh’s Story
Vishwashkumar Ramesh miraculously survived the Gujarat plane crash and was filmed walking away from the wreckage. Ramesh, a British national of Indian descent, provided an account of the disaster. “Thirty seconds after takeoff there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” Ramesh told the Hindustan Times.
Personal Details and Family Reaction
Ramesh was in India visiting family for a few days before his ill-fated return journey to the United Kingdom, where he has resided for two decades.
“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital,” Ramesh recounted.
Family’s Perspective
Ramesh’s brother, Nayan Kumar, revealed that their father spoke to Vishwashkumar just before the London Gatwick Airport-bound plane departed.
“My dad called him. And Vishwash said, ‘Oh, we’re going to take off soon,” Nayan stated in an interview with Sky News.
“He video called my dad as he crashed and said, ‘Oh the plane’s crashed. I don’t know where my brother is. I don’t see any other passengers. I don’t know how I’m alive – how I exited the plane’,” Nayan added, highlighting the chaotic nature of the immediate aftermath.
Medical Condition of the Survivor
Dr. Dhaval Gameti, attending to Ramesh at Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital, reported that he was “disoriented with multiple injuries all over his body,” but added, “But he seems to be out of danger.”
Seat Location and Crash Dynamics
The Significance of Seat 11A
Ahmedabad police commissioner GS Malik informed Asian News International that Ramesh was seated in seat 11A, located in the emergency row of the aircraft. This seat’s location may have played a role in his survival.
Expert Analysis on Survivability
David Soucie, a former Federal Aviation Administration safety inspector, commented on the seat’s location: “Right where the spar of the wing would go under and it would be a solid place for the aircraft to hit the ground, but as far as survivability above it, that is incredibly surprising.”
