Logos Space Services Secures $50 Million to Advance Broadband Satellite Constellation

TAMPA, Fla. — Logos Space Services, a startup established by a former Google executive and NASA project manager, has obtained $50 million in funding to further its engineering designs for a constellation of over 4,000 broadband satellites. The announcement was made on June 12.

Series A Funding Details

The Series A investment originated from US Innovative Technologies (USIT), an investment firm that supports technologies with both civilian and military applications. Thomas Tull, a seasoned entrepreneur and chairman of USIT, had previously invested an undisclosed sum in the venture and remains the sole investor.

Background of Logos Space Services

Logos, headquartered in Redwood City, California, emerged from stealth mode in October after submitting an application to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for authorization to utilize satellites operating in the K and higher-frequency V and E spectrum bands. The company’s proposed LEO satellite constellation aims to deliver enhanced broadband services.

Technical Specifications of the Satellite Constellation

Logos’ planned low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites will function at altitudes of 870–925 kilometers, positioning them higher than SpaceX’s Starlink satellites. Key features of the constellation include:

  • Use of high frequencies for data transmission
  • Application of tightly focused beams
  • Elevated angles to minimize signal interference
  • Designed to withstand jamming

Progress and Licensing

Milo Medin, founder of the startup and former vice president of access services at Google, stated that Logos remains “actively engaged in the licensing process.” The development of these broadband satellites is a key focus for the company.

Engineering Design Advancements

“We’ve made progress on our engineering design,” Medin noted, though he did not provide specific details.

Team Expansion

The company is focused on expanding its team with experienced professionals from major aerospace and satellite entities. “We’ve added to our core technical team with experience from major aerospace and satellite players, from SpaceX to NASA to Airbus and more. This round will help us grow our team further with critical hires.”

Current and Future Staffing

Currently, Logos has 10 full-time employees and intends to recruit at least 40 additional personnel by the end of the year, enhancing its capacity to develop advanced broadband satellite technology.

Key Personnel Additions

Recent appointments include Jorge Delgado as director of engineering. Delgado previously held engineering positions at Airbus, OneWeb, and Apollo Fusion.

Deployment Timeline

According to Medin, the Series A funding will enable the company to move forward on critical design decisions, partner selection, and prototype development. The goal is to deploy its first operational satellite by late 2027, providing advanced satellite internet capabilities.

Constellation Size and Comparison

Logos initially applied for permission to launch 3,960 satellites but now anticipates deploying 4,178 spacecraft. This would establish it as one of the largest proposed constellations worldwide, although it remains smaller than Starlink, which currently has over 7,700 satellites in orbit and continues to expand. The satellite constellation promises to deliver substantial broadband capacity.

USIT’s Portfolio

USIT has also invested in other companies serving both commercial and national security interests, including Anduril, Shield AI, and Capella Space.
