Shivani Raja, speaking with BBC News, conveyed that her constituency, home to a significant British-Gujarati population, is “really horrified and devastated upon awakening to such tragic news.” Raja stated she understands “a handful of Leicester residents” were passengers on the ill-fated aircraft but is awaiting official confirmation.
Concerns Over Flight Safety and Past Experiences
The Conservative MP highlighted past disruptions on this “very popular flight route,” experienced by her family, constituents, and herself. She plans to address safety concerns in writing to Indian authorities, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and Air India. Previously, a family member endured a “delay for over 24 hours due to an engine malfunction,” she noted.
