Trump Offers Unexpected Defense of Biden, Citing Advisors’ Actions on Border Security
Former President Donald Trump has surprisingly defended Joe Biden, asserting that a clandestine network of advisors exploited his purported cognitive decline during his time in the White House, with damaging effects on the nation. This unexpected shift comes amidst ongoing debates about border security and immigration policies, key issues in the current political climate.
Trump’s Stance on Border Security
Trump previously campaigned on a stringent border approach, promising a substantial mass deportation effort unprecedented in United States history. He had consistently criticized Democrats for what he perceived as lax border policies during their tenure.
- Vowing for mass deportations.
- Criticizing Democrats for open border policies.
- Targeting Biden’s inaction.
A Shift in Blame
However, following Biden’s recent disclosure of a late-stage prostate cancer diagnosis and mounting discussions concerning his cognitive capabilities, Trump has extended an unexpected degree of leniency to the former President.
Trump’s Truth Social Post
In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “The Joe Biden that everybody knew would never allow drug dealers, gang members, and the mentally insane to come into our Country totally unchecked and unvetted. All anyone has to do is look up his record.” The post continued, “Joe Biden was not for Open Borders, he never talked about Open Borders, where criminals of all kinds, shapes, and sizes, can flow into our Country at will.”
Accusations Against Biden’s Advisors
Trump asserted that opening the border and its consequences were “not [Biden’s] idea.” Instead, he placed blame on “the people that knew he was cognitively impaired, and that took over the Autopen.”
Allegations of Treason
Trump further claimed, “They stole the Presidency of the United States, and put us in Great Danger. This is TREASON at the Highest Level! They did it to destroy our Country.”
Calls for Severe Punishment
Trump also contended that the decisions made by Biden’s administration members led to significant financial burdens, stating it has “cost us Hundreds of Billions of Dollars to get criminals out of our Country, and go through the process we are going through now.” He is now advocating for “very severe” consequences for those found culpable.
“Something very severe should happen to these Treasonous Thugs that wanted to destroy our Country, but couldn’t, because I came along,” Trump stated.
Congressional Inquiries and Autopen Use
Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer previously stated that he attempted to subpoena White House aides during Biden’s administration—Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, and Ashley Williams—regarding autopen use. Comer alleged obstruction by the Biden White House, which reportedly declined to make the aides available for depositions or interviews.
- Subpoenas issued to White House aides.
- Allegations of obstruction by the Biden administration.
- Questions raised over the use of autopen.
The Autopen Controversy
An investigation by the conservative Oversight Project suggested that Biden frequently employed an autopen for significant documents. The organization posited, “WHOEVER CONTROLLED THE AUTOPEN CONTROLLED THE PRESIDENCY,” in a social media post.
Past Praises for Biden
While this defense of Biden seems atypical, Trump has previously offered public praise. In 2020, he described Biden as “a very nice man,” and in 2024, he revealed that Biden contacted him after an assassination attempt, noting, “He couldn’t have been nicer.”
Contrasting Views on Immigration
On the first day of his administration, Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border to implement strict measures against migrants.
During his campaign, especially before Biden’s withdrawal from the race, Trump frequently called the border situation “Biden’s invasion.” In June 2024, he expressed his desire to “send Joe Biden’s illegal aliens back home where they belong,” advocating for deportations over what he characterized as Biden’s “invasion.”
Biden Administration’s Immigration Policies
Trump has consistently opposed immigration programs initiated by the Biden administration, designed to reduce direct border crossings for asylum seekers and alleviate chaos in the region.
- CBP One app: scheduling asylum appointments.
- Program for Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela: allowing entry with a financial sponsor and pre-arranged flight.
Trump has emphasized that terminating these policies would remove approximately one million migrants from the United States.
Scrutiny Over Autopen Use and Biden’s Health
These recent remarks, shifting blame from Biden, coincide with escalating scrutiny regarding autopen use and questions surrounding Biden’s health.
Trump raised questions about border security and signing of legislation earlier this on Tuesday, asking “We’re going to start looking into this whole thing with who signed this legislation. Who signed legislation opening our border?” and added “Now I find out it wasn’t him. He autopenned it.”
These developments have also been punctuated by Biden’s recent prostate cancer diagnosis. Trump was among the first to offer his regards, wishing Biden a fast recovery.
Questions About Biden’s Diagnosis
However, this truce was short-lived. MAGA loyalists and Trump questioned the timing of Biden’s diagnosis announcement.
“It takes a long time to get to that situation… I’m surprised that it wasn’t, you know, the public wasn’t notified a long time ago because to get to stage nine, that’s a long time,” Trump said.
Biden’s illness is rated 9 on the prostate cancer ‘Gleason scale’, which means it is extremely aggressive, and at stage 4 (there is no stage 5 with this cancer) in general medical terms.
Biden officials have attempted to assure the public that the diagnosis was recent, following the discovery of an abnormal nodule on his prostate. According to a spokesperson for Biden on Tuesday, “Prior to Friday, President Biden had never been diagnosed with prostate cancer,” confirming that Biden had not undergone testing for prostate issues since 2014.
