Bindi Irwin Health Update: Recovering After Emergency Surgery

Bindi Irwin, the Australian conservationist and television personality, is currently recovering following an emergency surgery. The 26-year-old provided a health update to her fans on Monday, revealing that she had to undergo medical intervention, causing her to miss the annual Steve Irwin Gala. She is now focused on her recovery from endometriosis and other health concerns.

Details of Bindi Irwin’s Surgery

“Hey, guys. Bindi here. I just want to say thank you so much for your incredible well-wishes,” she conveyed from her hospital bed in a video shared on Instagram.

“I just got out of surgery about an hour ago. I had my appendix removed,” Irwin disclosed. “I also had 14 new endometriosis lesions that had to be removed, and they kindly stitched up my hernia as well.”

Gratitude to Medical Team and Supporters

Irwin expressed her appreciation to the medical staff at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York City and thanked her followers for their “kind words and support.”

“Sorry if I’m a little out of it in this video,” she added, “but I just wanted you to know that I’m on the road to recovery, one step at a time. I am so lucky to have so much love in my life from my beautiful family.”

Elaborating on Her Hospitalization

The “Dancing with the Stars” champion, who has been open about her battle with endometriosis, provided further details about her hospitalization in the caption of her post:

  • “After many months of a grumbly appendix, I finally had to seek help the day of our Steve Irwin Gala,” she explained.
  • “After consulting with Dr. Seckin, we agreed that if I flew to New York, he could also check for endometriosis again. Surgery was a success.”
  • “My appendix was removed, along with another 14 lesions (after having 37 endometriosis lesions and a cyst removed two years ago). I also had a repair to a large hernia I acquired through childbirth four years ago.”

Robert Irwin Steps Up at the Steve Irwin Gala

Bindi acknowledged her younger brother, Robert, 21, for successfully hosting the Las Vegas gala named in honor of their late father.

“He did such an incredible job raising funds and awareness for Wildlife Warriors. And thanks to my family for always being there for me,” Bindi stated, also mentioning her husband, Chandler Powell, their 4-year-old daughter, Grace, and her mother, Terri, who also missed the gala to be by Bindi’s side.

“And rest assured, I’ll see you at the next Steve Irwin Gala in Brisbane this November,” Bindi affirmed. “One day at a time. Time to heal now. Sending my love to you.”

Robert Irwin’s Remarks at the Gala

During the Steve Irwin Gala on Saturday, Robert shared that Bindi had undergone emergency surgery for her appendix.

“She’s just come out the other side of endometriosis and now the appendix goes,” he remarked.

Robert further mentioned that Bindi had intended to attend the gala, despite being in “a lot of pain,” until her physician insisted on immediate surgery.

“She’s devastated that she and Mom can’t be here,” Robert said, “but I know she’ll make a speedy recovery.”

Bindi’s Previous Endometriosis Battle

Bindi underwent surgery for endometriosis back in March 2023. She revealed on the “A Life of Greatness” podcast prior to this year that she had experienced “fatigue” daily for a decade due to the condition.

“There’s no cure for endometriosis, but if you’re able to get surgery you have a better shot at life,” she shared, highlighting the importance of medical intervention for managing the condition.
