Brother of Pope Leo XIV Defends Pelosi Social Media Post

The older brother of Pope Leo XIV is standing by his decision to share a controversial social media post that disparagingly referred to California Representative Nancy Pelosi. This incident raises questions about social media and its impact on the papacy. Louis Prevost stated on Monday, “I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t kind of believe it,” showing no regret for the offensive language used against the former House Speaker. This comes amid scrutiny of Pope Leo XIV and his family’s views.

Louis Prevost Justifies Insulting Post

Louis Prevost did not apologize for the coarse insult aimed at the former House speaker. He predicted to Piers Morgan what a hypothetical future meeting between President Trump and the new Pope might be like, showcasing his political leanings.

The extensive interview with the pontiff’s brother, a self-proclaimed Donald Trump supporter, surfaced following media reports about a series of Facebook posts. These posts were either shared or authored by Prevost, 73, before his brother, formerly known as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, was chosen to succeed the late Pope Francis. The controversy highlights potential challenges for Pope Leo XIV navigating political divides.

One provocative post included a video, shared by Prevost from another user, showing Pelosi discussing tariffs in 1996. The caption accompanying the video was critical, employing derogatory language.

“Well, I posted it, and I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t kind of believe it,” Prevost reiterated on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” before conceding some degree of second thought.

Prevost Acknowledges Potential Impact on Pope

“However, I had no idea what was coming this soon, and I can tell you, since then, I’ve been very quiet, biting my tongue at some of the stuff that is out there on social media, because I don’t want to create waves that don’t need to be there because I’m a MAGA type and I have my beliefs,” he continued. “I don’t need to create heat for [Leo], he’s going to have enough.”

Views on Gay Marriage and Women Priests

While Louis Prevost admitted that Leo is not as conservative as himself, he asserted that the Pope will not endorse gay marriage or women serving as priests, also claiming he is not “woke.” The statements offer insights into the anticipated direction of the Catholic Church under Pope Leo XIV’s leadership.

“I don’t know that I would even go that far to say he is woke,” he responded when questioned by Morgan.

“I don’t think he is going to go, pull the church hard left,” Prevost further explained. “I think he’s going to be down the middle.”

He suggested that while Leo will likely welcome gay individuals into the church, similar to Francis, he will not advocate for same-sex marriage. He also speculated that Leo might appoint women to advisory positions within the church but will not sanction their ordination as priests.

Potential Confrontation with Trump

When Morgan inquired about his brother’s potential relationship with Trump, Prevost hinted at possible disagreements, though he doesn’t anticipate them becoming “enemies.” The relationship between Pope Leo XIV and political figures like Trump will be closely watched.

“If and when he meets with President Trump, I don’t doubt there will be some bumps in the discussion and some heated conversation,” he predicted.

Leo’s Election and Initial Positions

Leo was elected pope last week amid considerable attention and has since begun to reveal his stances as he assumes leadership of the Catholic Church.
