Andrea McLean Shares Update on Health Struggles Following Pneumonia
Former “Loose Women” personality Andrea McLean has offered an update on her protracted recovery following hospitalization earlier this year with pneumonia. The 55-year-old television host took to her Instagram account to convey that while a wellness retreat in Turkey was intended to rejuvenate her, she still feels significantly “slowed down.” This health update highlights the challenges of bouncing back after a severe illness and emphasizes the importance of prioritizing wellness and recovery during such times. Andrea McLean’s health journey serves as an inspiration for many facing similar situations.
The Aftermath of Pneumonia and Kidney Issues
In a video posted on social media, Andrea explained that she experienced a “difficult start” to the year, which “set her back considerably.” She recounted: “For those of you who may not be aware, I was hospitalized with pneumonia, coupled with kidney complications and related issues. My objective has been to reintegrate wellness and fitness into my routine. However, progress has been incremental, feeling more like a crawl than a brisk walk or run.”
Wellness Journey in Turkey: A Step in the Right Direction
Detailing her experience further in the video’s caption, Andrea wrote about attending the wellness week:
“My journey back towards optimal health is progressing slowly and unevenly. Consequently, when the opportunity arose to participate in a Wellness week in Turkey, alongside elite Olympic athletes and world-renowned dancers, I eagerly accepted, making it clear that I might struggle to compete. I acknowledged, ‘I am slower than I used to be and might experience setbacks.’ I felt apprehensive.”
She continued, “It has been truly enriching. I have operated at my own tempo, accepting my current limitations. Despite briefly overexerting myself in a dance class and needing to rest, the environment remained supportive. Absence of pressure or worry. I have enjoyed morning walks instead of runs, engaged in stretching and yoga, received a massage, and connected with extraordinary individuals.”
Near-Death Experience and a Renewed Focus on Life
In March, the former ITV personality disclosed she had been diagnosed with severe pneumonia, acute kidney injury, and sepsis following extensive medical examinations. She remembered collapsing at home and remaining on the bathroom floor for an hour before her husband discovered her.
Reflecting on a Close Call
Speaking to The Mirror, she emphasized that delaying seeking help “might have had fatal consequences.” She recounted, “I got up to go to the bathroom and simply collapsed. Upon the paramedics’ arrival, they indicated my blood pressure necessitated stabilization before transport.”
“Navigating the tight staircase proved challenging, but with assistance, I managed to reach the ambulance and was promptly taken to the hospital. The subsequent weeks profoundly altered my perspective.”
She further stated, “Opportunities for second chances are rare; therefore, as I regained my strength, I resolved to seize each day, focusing on my true aspirations. I came very close to death.”
