US Vice-President J.D. Vance has stated that the Ukraine conflict is “unlikely to conclude anytime soon” during an interview with Fox News.

Vance emphasized that the current focus for the US government should be on facilitating a compromise between Russia and Ukraine to halt the prolonged confrontation.

However, Vance acknowledged, “it will ultimately be up to Russia and Ukraine to reach an accord and cease this brutal and unforgiving war.”

These remarks follow recent Washington-Kyiv negotiations to share profits from Ukraine’s rare earth minerals in exchange for future US military support.

Russia-Ukraine Territorial Disputes

During a broader conversation, Vance endorsed former President Trump’s stance on the Ukraine imbroglio.

“Certainly, Ukrainians are outraged by the invasion,” Vance continued. “But shall we persist in suffering immense military casualties over relatively minor territorial disputes?”

This week, Trump hinted that Ukraine may consent to ceding Crimea—annexed by Russia in 2014—to achieve a peace settlement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, however, previously suggested he could not accept Russian sovereignty over the peninsula, citing the Ukrainian charter.

US Officials Weigh in on Ukraine Deterrence

In a Fox News appearance on Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed the need for a “major advancement” in the conflict. Rubio warned that inaction could force Trump to reconsider the time and resources dedicated to this international crisis.

Russia and Ukraine CeaseFIre Dispute

This week, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a temporary, three-day truce beginning May 8, coinciding with the observance of Victory Day, which marks the end of World War II.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha promptly called for an immediate, 30-day ceasefire in response.

However, clashes between the nations have persisted, leading to recent civilian casualties in both territories.

Recent Attacks and Casualties

Thursday Evening Drone Strike: Russian drone strike injured 14 people in Ukraine’s southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia but resulted in no fatalities.

Marketplace Tragedy: Moscow accused Ukraine of using drones to target a market in the Ukrainian territories under Russian control. According to Russian officials, seven were killed, and over 20 sustained injuries.

In response, Kyiv refuted the allegations, asserting that the attack exclusively targeted military assets.
