The United States has urged India and Pakistan to join forces and defuse escalating tensions following a fatal militant assault in Indian-administered Kashmir last week, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.

Pakistan’s Response
Meanwhile, Marco Rubio engaged in conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The esteemed diplomat strongly advocated for joint condemnation in the face of terrorism. He urged the latter nation to actively engage in the investigation of this passive attack.
During the communication, Sharif dismissed “Indian attempts to link Pakistan to the incident” as mentioned in a statement from his office. In addition, the Pakistani prime minister urged the United States to persuade India to tone down the hostile rhetoric and act responsibly.
Elevating Geopolitical Tensions
The discussions occurred after Pakistan’s information minister cautioned that they possess “credible intelligence” suggesting that India may initiate military action against the neighboring country within the next 24 to 36 hours. The Indian government has yet to publicly address these claims.
Speculation has arisen regarding the possibility of India retaliating with military strikes against Pakistan, as occurred in response to deadly militant incidents in 2019 and 2016. Islamabad has issued warnings of counteraction in the event of such military engagement from India’s side.
The Conflict in Kashmir
As tensions rise, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened continuous meetings this week with senior state and defense officials in Delhi. During the latest of such meetings with India’s top defense officials on Tuesday, Modi reportedly granted the armed forces autonomy in determining the “timing, targets, and approach” for their response concerning the vicious affair. In addition, the country’s national security council, chaired by Modi met for the second time this week to discuss these matters.
Military Confrontations
In recent days, troops from both countries have exchanged sporadic gunfire along the border.India raised a strong objection to multiple ceasefire breaches by Pakistan on Tuesday during the weekly meeting between senior military representatives from both nations, as reported by the Indian media.
The next day, India declared it would not permit any Pakistani aircraft, whether commercial or military, to traverse its airspace. This move was a reply to a parallel decision by Pakistan.
India suspended most visas granted to Pakistani nationals last week and instructed them to depart the country within a few days, a deadline that has since passed. The country has also discontinued a vital water-sharing treaty with Pakistan.
In reponse, Pakistan canceled equivalent visas and halted a 1972 peace agreement with India. Since the announcements, 786 Pakistani citizens have left India, and 1,465 Indians have returned from Pakistan, according to media reports.

The organization officially denied later its involvement in a statement released several days earlier. The organization is thought to be linked with Lashhar Taiba. a Pakistan-based violent group, which India designates as a terrorist organization.
