Importance Score: 35 / 100 🔵

The newest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) motion picture offers two compelling end-credits sequences for fans to look forward to.

Making its debut in theaters today, “Thunderbolts” culminates with the anti-hero squadron being rebranded as the New Avengers.

The Intriguing Post-Credits Scenes of “Thunderbolts”

The Mid-Credits Scene

The mid-credits sequence is a humorous sketch featuring David Harbour as Red Guardian in a grocery store, attempting to get a fellow shopper to recognize him on a New Avengers cereal box, but failing.

The Post-Credits Scene

The post-credits scene, set approximately 14 months later in the Avengers Tower, is leaving audiences eagerly anticipating “The Fantastic Four” and “Avengers: Doomsday.”

The post-credits scene shows the New Avengers unwinding in the tower when Bob gets an emergency signal from Outer Space. As Florence Pugh’s Yelena examines the satellite imagery, a massive spacecraft comes into view. Upon rotation, a giant number 4 is revealed, confirming that the Fantastic Four have arrived in the MCU’s Earth-616.

What Does This Mean for Upcoming Marvel Films?

The subsequent installment in the franchise set to premiere in theaters is “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” scheduled for July 25, 2025. Set in a 1960s retro-futuristic alternate universe to the MCU’s Earth-616, the film stars:

  • Pedro Pascal
  • Vanessa Kirby
  • Joseph Quinn
  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach

As the New Avengers’ post-credits sequence makes clear, the film “The Fantastic Four” will conclude with the superhero team traversing the multiverse into Earth-616 for the events of “Avengers: Doomsday.”

“Avengers: Doomsday” A Multiversal Blockbuster

“Avengers: Doomsday” reaches theaters in one year and will be helmed by the Russo Brothers, who previously directed “Infinity War” and “Endgame.” In addition, Robert Downey Jr. returns as the formidable antagonist Doctor Doom. The extensive cast includes the New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the 2000s X-Men, who are also from another dimension—as teased in the “The Marvels” end credits. Notable returnees for this multiversal crossover epic include:

  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor
  • Paul Rudd as Ant-Man
  • Tom Hiddleston as Loki
