The castaways of “Survivor” Season 48 have voiced their opposition to Star Toomey, but she has now broken her silence and provided her perspective on the events leading to her elimination.
Toomey, a contestant on the popular reality competition, discussed her departure from the show following an exclusive conversation with The Post. She detailed how two of her previous tribal allies, Eva Erickson and Joe Hunter had persistently zeroed in on her.
The 28-year-old hopeful acknowledges no regret in handing over her Hidden Immunity Idol to Erickson earlier in the series. However, she had anticipated that the gesture would yield a more favorable result.
Toomey’s Strategy and Her Alliance with Erickson
“Star Toomey on “Survivor.”
“I assumed that action would have strengthened our bond and fostered a better relationship,” Toomey expressed to The Post. “I thought at that junction, it would serve as an olive branch, or what she needed to convey, ‘Hey, I’m not your adversary.’ Yet, as we observe every episode, she repeatedly mentions my name.”
She cited Erickson’s frequent references to her name during tribals that she found perplexing.
”
And I can’t fathom why, as in, ‘Listen, I considered us on good terms. Could you refrain from mentioning my name? You’re attracting excessive attention,’” Toomey elaborated. “Each instance, I ponder, ‘Why do you keep uttering my name? I just bestowed this idol upon you.’ Possibly, at that point, I hoped she might have played it for me or expressed gratitude, like, ‘Thanks, I appreciate it. Perhaps it should be yours. Here’s your idol back’.”
Toomey humorously noted that Erickson had metaphorically kept her “foot on my neck” all season and addressed other castaways labeling her as “chaotic” on the island.
“Numerous individuals assert that I’m all over the place. However, as I watch, I realize, ‘It’s not me. You all are the ones causing chaos. You’re paranoid. You’re the ones instigating the issues,’ ” she stated
Hunter’s “Kryptonite” Comment
Toomey also divulged to The Post she was taken aback when Hunter referred to her as his “Kryptonite” in the latest episode.
“In my mind, nobody knows, but Joe initially wanted to collaborate with me,” she disclosed. “I’m uncertain whether he desired to team up with me from the outset or when he and Eva had their moment during their stroll and decided to work together. I’m unsure. But in my mind, he approached me on day one. Hence, at that point, I believed we were aligned.”
However, Toomey asserted that upon reaching the merge, Hunter did not reciprocate her loyalty. Following Hunter’s immunity win, Star and the other outsiders turned on one another rather than Erickson
“I genuinely don’t understand why he labeled me his Kryptonite. The more I observe, he seems to be playing the role of the Joker attempting to set me up and take me down. And I’m Superman, merely trying to evade every assault against me.”
Failed Uprising Against the Majority Alliance
In her final episode, Toomey endeavored to rally dissent against Erickson and Hunter’s dominant coalition, but her plans fell short.
“I approached Kamilla [Karthigesu] and Mitch [Guerra], inquiring, ‘Would you target Eva?’” Toomey recalled. “I’m unclear about what transpired behind the scenes after I posed that question. Because I conveyed that to Mary [Zheng], and the next thing I knew, Mary said, ‘It’s between me and you’.”
“I observed Mitch, and he responded, ‘I must contemplate it.’ And we all know in ‘Survivor,’ it’s either yes or no,” Toomey elaborated. “Anyone who tells you, ‘I need to think about it,’ the answer is no. The message is, ‘Poor thing, bless your heart, step aside.’ And that’s precisely what he was communicating to me.”
