Stricken companions honor British woman fatally stabbed near her French residence as authorities pursue her assailant.

In the aftermath of a brutal attack, the lifeless body of Karen Carter, a 65-year-old British woman, married mother of four, was discovered outside her property in the village of Trémolat, situated east of Bordeaux, on Tuesday evening.

Victim and Attack Details

Brutal Assault in Quiet Village

An investigative source revealed that Ms. Carter was found “plagued by stab wounds,” with urgent efforts now focused on pinpointing and apprehending the assailant.

The source indicated that Ms. Carter endured a violent onslaught after enjoying an evening at a local café-bar with a male companion.

According to the Bergerac prosecutor’s office, the victim sustained multiple lacerations to her chest, groin, arm, and leg. The murder weapon remains unfound.

Medical personnel arrived to find Ms. Carter in “cardio-respiratory arrest,” and despite resuscitation efforts, she succumbed at the scene.

A Villager’s Heartfelt Response

Residents of the small, serene commune were left in utter disbelief by the incident.

A resident described Ms. Carter as “a charming, vibrant individual who was beloved by all,” adding, “None of us can fathom how such a tragedy could occur in a place like this. We are all securing our doors. It is quite unsettling.”

Ongoing Official Investigation

Sylvie Martins-Guedes, the Bergerac prosecutor, verified the initiation of a criminal inquiry and confirmed local gendarmes are conducting the investigation.

She stated, “an extensive search is underway to identify and arrest the culprit,” and postulated that potential motivations may include robbery.

In a Thursday statement, Ms. Martins-Guedes detailed that emergency responders had been summoned at 10:17 pm on Tuesday, discovering a woman in cardiac arrest.

Eyewitness Account

According to the statement, the woman had been found by a companion with whom she had maintained a relationship for several weeks. They had spent the previous evening with friends in Trémolat before returning to the victim’s residence.

The companion reported that Ms. Carter had arrived only about ten minutes before he found her collapsed and unresponsive near her vehicle, with visible bleeding wounds. He immediately summoned emergency services and attempted first aid.

Victim Profile

Community Involvement and Entrepreneurial Spirit

Ms. Carter, the proprietor and manager of two guesthouses in Trémolat, was known to welcome numerous British guests. Her property, Les Chouettes, is described as “a delightful old renovated farmhouse and barn,” with accommodations for up to 14 guests.

Personal Life and Interests

Married to Alan Carter, Ms. Carter was an alumna of Rhodes University in South Africa, where she studied alongside her spouse.

She also maintained a lifestyle blog, La Vie est Belle (Life Is Beautiful), catered to women over 50, and was a key member of the Queens of Football (Reines du Foot) team.

Earlier this year, the team participated in the Grandma’s World Cup in South Africa.

The club paid tribute to Ms. Carter, writing on Facebook, “…our friend and Queen of Football, who leaves a great void in our hearts. All our thoughts go out to her loved ones.”

Community Impact and Safety Measures

A Trémolat resident reported on Wednesday, “Everyone is utterly shocked—Ms. Carter was a delightful, energetic person who was beloved by all.”

The resident further noted, “We noticed emergency vehicles in the village, followed by numerous police cars, and later, her residence was cordoned off.”

The resident, who wished to remain unnamed “for security reasons,” added, “We have no idea how this could happen in such a peaceful place. We are all locking our doors. It is deeply concerning.”

A notice was posted at the local café, announcing the cancellation of the Wednesday concert and Thursday quiz due to the death.

Continuing Inquiry and Local Context

A probe has been launched against an unidentified individual regarding voluntary homicide. The prosecutor stated, “All investigative avenues are being explored.”

The Dordogne region is a favored destination for British tourists, second-home owners, and expatriate retirees.

Britons in French Tragedies

Back in February, a British couple, Andrew and Dawn Searle, previously residing in East Lothian, Scotland, were discovered deceased at their home in the village of Les Peques, north of Toulouse.

In a statement regarding the couple’s deaths, officials indicated no evidence suggested another person involvement in their passing and posited murder-suicide as the most likely conclusion.
