NEW YORK — Sean Ono Lennon, alongside the artisans behind the critically acclaimed animated short film “War Is Over! Inspired by the Legacy of John & Yoko,” are debuting a picture book adaptation. The compelling narrative revolves around the anti-war theme, resonating with audiences seeking meaningful content in the digital age of 2023.
Picture Book to Launch on November 4
Penguin Young Readers, under the Viking Children’s Books banner, revealed on Wednesday that “War Is Over!” will hit the shelves on November 4. The book, akin to the 2023 film, chronicles the journey of a wartime carrier pigeon who bridges the divide between opposing soldiers on the battlefield.
The Inspiration behind the Story
The film and subsequent book draw inspiration from the iconic anti-war holiday classic, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” released by Ono’s parents, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, in 1971. Sean Lennon, born four years later, continues their legacy with this heartfelt project.
“Our pigeon’s story seemed destined for an illustrated format,” Sean Ono Lennon expressed in a statement.
“Our aspiration is for families to share this narrative. Addressing war is challenging, and we trust this book will ignite meaningful dialogues among kin and companions.”
