GOG Enhances Game Preservation Initiative with Classic Star Wars Titles
The PC gaming platform, GOG, is expanding its acclaimed game preservation program by incorporating a selection of beloved classic Star Wars titles. This initiative is dedicated to ensuring older games remain operational and enjoyable on contemporary computer systems. This expansion highlights GOG’s commitment to preserving gaming history and providing gamers access to treasured titles.
The following Star Wars games are now part of the preservation program:
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords
- Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance
- Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds Saga
GOG’s Commitment to Gaming History
Originally unveiled last November, GOG’s game preservation program features an extensive library of 162 DRM-free games, including notable titles such as Breath of Fire IV, Diablo, System Shock 2, and the initial trilogy of Resident Evil games. GOG’s objective is to maintain these games, guaranteeing their functionality on both “current and future” Windows operating systems, while also furnishing comprehensive technical assistance to players.
Continued Access and Future Expansion
An additional advantage of the preserved titles is their ongoing availability, even if GOG removes them from its digital storefront. The company aims to include “hundreds” of games in the program by the close of the current year, further cementing its position as a champion for classic PC gaming.
