According to an official statement released by the LAPD on April 9, the 51-year-old, Jillian Lauren, was shot by officers after allegedly brandishing a handgun at them outside her home. Following the incident, Lauren was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for a “non-life-threatening gunshot wound.” Thankfully, no officers or other civilians sustained injuries during this encounter, as stated in the press release.

The newly released footage of the incident includes both body camera video from the officers present alongside the audio recording of the 911 dispatch call, providing a comprehensive view of the event.
Ongoing Investigation
Jennifer Forkish, the public information director at the LAPD, introduced the footage with a statement emphasizing that the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing and is expected to “take up to a year to complete.”
Forkish further clarified that the LAPD will refrain from drawing any conclusions regarding the officers’ compliance with departmental policies and legal standards until the completion of the investigation.
Content of the Body Camera Footage
The body camera recording showed multiple officers commanding Lauren to drop the weapon.
- “M’am, we’re trying to help you. Put the gun down,” one officer is heard saying.
- “You’re going to get shot. It’s the police.”
- Another officer noted, “Hey, she just pointed it. Not at us, but she just lifted it up… Oh, she racked it!”
The sound of gunfire immediately followed these exchanges.
Authorities had initially responded to the area in pursuit of three suspects connected to an unrelated hit-and-run.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Following the event, Lauren was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A 9mm handgun was recovered from the home she shares with Shriner, 59.
Lauren was subsequently released on a $1 million bail, according to The Hollywood Reporter on April 10. Her court date is set for Wednesday, April 30.

Lauren and Shriner have been married since November 2005 and are parents to two sons, Tariku and Jovanni, whom they adopted from Ethiopia in 2007 and 2009.
