Kylie Jenner Opens Up About Grief Following Hairstylist Jesus Guerrero’s Death

This past weekend, Kylie Jenner shared a heartfelt message about her feelings of “loneliness” and “crying” over the loss of her hairstylist, Jesus Guerrero, three months after his unexpected passing at the age of 34. Guerrero, esteemed for his work with high-profile figures like Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Lopez, passed away in a Los Angeles hospital after completing work with Lopez in Dubai. His sister, Gris, announced his untimely death on February 22, noting its sudden nature.

Remembering Jesus Guerrero

Earlier this month, while awaiting autopsy results, Gris revealed that Jesus had been diagnosed with gastritis in the months preceding his death. Kylie has since shared her reflections on dealing with her grief. Her post included a touching throwback video from last autumn featuring her and Jesus in a hotel room.

In the video, Kylie playfully asks, “Did you just do the curtain’s hair?” referring to a curtain that appeared intricately braided. Jesus responds with a lighthearted, “Yeah, I got bored.” This tender moment offered a glimpse into their close friendship.

The post was inspired by a recent episode of Kylie’s Hulu series, “The Kardashians.” In the episode, Khloe Kardashian complimented Kylie’s look at the CFDA Fashion Awards. Prompted by the viral moment, Kylie revisited footage of her styling session with Jesus for the event.

Coping with Loss

Kylie captioned the video, dated October 28, 2024: “Found this video from that day. I thought I could get through today without crying, but the ache of missing you hit all over again. Grief isn’t getting easier; it’s just getting lonelier.”

She continued with a poignant message: “I miss you so much. Why aren’t you here. every first without you hurts sm,” and tagged his Instagram account.

Details Surrounding His Death

This post came a few weeks after Gris disclosed information about her brother’s health in the year leading up to his death. According to Us Weekly, she stated, “He was diagnosed with gastritis months back, but it was never anything to get that bad. So we don’t know if that was a part of it.”

Understanding Gastritis

  • Gastritis involves inflammation of the stomach lining.
  • It can be triggered by various factors, including stress, medications, alcohol, diet, smoking, underlying illnesses, burns, or major surgeries.
  • Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, abdominal bleeding, and loss of appetite, as per Johns Hopkins.

Gris shared that her brother appeared to have lost approximately 20lbs before his death, based on available “paperwork.” “We think it could have been something with his stomach,” she explained, noting that her family was aware “that he couldn’t eat without it being painful” in the days before his passing.

Funeral and Support

Jesus Guerrero was laid to rest in his hometown of Houston, Texas, a month after his death. Both Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Lopez attended the service, according to TMZ.

Gris previously confirmed in a GoFundMe update on February 25 that Kylie offered to cover his “funeral expenses and offering up all her help and support.” She added, “She has told us anything we need. Jesus was family to her, and she was family to him,” as reported by Us Weekly.

Regarding the $96,000 raised through the GoFundMe campaign, surpassing the initial $80,000 goal, Guerrero indicated that the funds “will go toward the costs associated with securing his belongings home as well as other unexpected expenses to settle his assets.”

Tributes to Guerrero

Kylie described Jesus as “a true artist” whom she “loved so much” in her emotional tribute, adding: “Jesus was more than my friend – he was a light in my life, a source of laughter, comfort, love, and unwavering support. I don’t know how I would have made it through the last almost decade without him by my side. He had a way of making even the heaviest days feel lighter.”

Gris also acknowledged that Jennifer Lopez “talked us through everything that she could, along with others that were there. I am very grateful for everything she did [for him], to go to the doctor and not to work and to get rest” during their work trip to Dubai.

Jennifer Lopez wrote in her tribute that Guerrero “never demanded the spotlight” because he never needed to make a sound to be recognized as “your heart and your talent did that as effortlessly as [your] artistry did.” She concluded, “I know wherever you are there is beauty and light. And the beauty and light you left here will live on forever. Rest in peace, sweet angel.”

Additional Details

Although unable to attend the funeral due to rehearsals for her upcoming tour, Jesus’s client Katy Perry “has been in touch with his family,” according to TMZ.

Perry’s tribute read that she knew Jesus was ‘ok’ because he’s ‘in the light that you shined so brightly back here on Earth’ giving ‘the other Jesus a choppy feather or an octopus cut up there.’ She added, ‘It’s just us that are left with a dimmer world without you.’

Gris shared: “I found a quote that sums up the feelings I’ve had this past week that you’ve been gone: ‘Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.'”

Reportedly, Jesus had lost approximately 20lbs and experienced chills and hot flashes leading up to his death.

“We have been able to track every one of his steps, but we don’t know what got him sick or what was [the] sickness,” Gris shared with Us Weekly. “It all happened suddenly and no one knows why. [He was in the hospital at the time of his passing] and that’s part of why there are so many unanswered questions because nothing they had done was able to prevent this from happening.”

Guerrero’s talent extended to other celebrities, including Jessica Alba, Casandra ‘Cassie’ Fine, Rosalía, Demi Moore, Charli xcx, Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, LISA, and Shay Mitchell.
